Hello,
At last we are getting close to launching our IFboat!
When we inspected our sails, we found the main was equipped only with a boltrope. Does anyone else have that on their IF?
We hope to sail soon..

Re: Boltrope?
It is normal for an IF-boat mainsal that there are no travellers in the luff, just a rope to fit the row in the aft edge of the mast.

Re: Boltrope?
Thank you! Our previous IF had sliders/travellers, and this boat has some other differences as well.

Re: Boltrope?
If you prefer sliders, you may ask your favourite sailmaker to fit sliders in the luff. It is a simple work for somebody who knows how to do.
Due to extra cost and no performance increase, sladers are normally not mounted on racing sails for IF-boats. But with sladers handling is much easier. So I personally prefer sladers om my cruising main and have my previous "pensioned" racing mainsail refitted accordingly.

Re: Boltrope?
Well, we did put slides on the sail, but things are not as they were on our old IF.
With the stop in place, the sail is held too far from the boom for reefing, and the sail stacks so high as to make it difficult to fit the cover, and it is difficult for my wife to fit the halyard.
The channel for the sail with the track for the boom does not work with standard gate solutions.
What do other IF sailors do?

Re: Boltrope?
When you are expecting reefing at sea, you may open up the stop and release the (two or more) lowest slides before you leave harbour.
The sail cover is to reach up to the spinnaker boom fitting.
But I think that there exist better solutions. Ask your rig maker.

Re: Boltrope?
I imagine there are many, I hope to keep things simple. We may just go back to a boltrope-but thank you for your quick reply, it makes sense.
